Our Crazy Thing Called Life

Our Crazy Thing Called Life

DIY

Here's a tutorial on how I made my chalkboard.

I ventured to the local Goodwill looking for an old picture. You'll want something that has a solid wood frame AND a wood backing (some are cardboard). Make sure that you can easily remove the backing/picture from the frame itself & make sure that the entire thing seems sturdy.
You can see in the before picture, I found this picture of the vase with flowers. The painting a solid piece which is usual because most are held together by staples.
IF YOU HAVE A FRAME WITH STAPLES :  open them all up and take apart the three pieces - the frame, the wood backing, & the painting paper itself (which you can throw away). Then you can paint the frame the color of your choice, spray the wood backing with chalkboard spray paint and place back together after it all dries :)
IF YOU HAVE A SOLID FRAME and PHOTO : Tape off the frame of the picture with blue painting tape then you able to use chalkboard paint to create the chalkboard (I did 3 coats), after the chalkboard paint dried I used the same blue tape and old newspaper to section the frame off from the chalkboard and painted to frame white.
I used Rust-Oleum Chalkboard Paint from a can. It goes on thick & is very durable.
TA-DA! ... You now have yourself a chalkboard :)

Note : I googled and searched for days on the best tips and techniques to use to make a chalkboard. I combined all the information from SO MANY different sites to make mine :)
